LeafGuard gutters

The biggest, most costly mistake I have ever made was purchasing LeafGuard gutters from Costco. My bad! I researched and believed all the things I read. Could not find any published negative comments. Trusted Costco. Paid the money and yes, I signed the contract that says no return or refund on special order items. Never again purchase anything I cannot return. Immediately after installation I experienced three problems. Contacted Costco and they called LeafGuard. Very nice person came out right a way. They added another downspout as the gutters were not dispelling water on heavy rain days. Fixed it. The other two problems now one year later still exsist. All persons I dealt with were nice until they couldn't fix the problems then they just disappeared without any compensation at all including Costco who I feel really let me down. The gutters drip so badly that you need an umbrella to enter my home or garage. The water splashes back clear to the threshold and has ruined several door mats. Don't even get me started on Christmas decorations or anything at all displayed on porch and decking. The other problem is they pop as though someone were shoting bbs at them. Those who have witnessed this occurence agree that it seems to happen when the temp changes. Basically I was told I was imagining this in so many words. Many, many letters written to Costco but I have NEVER been compensated in any way or even had my communications replied to since the initial complaint. I have video and still pictures if needed. Since I have been rejected by both LeafGuard and Costco my only recourse is to tell anyone considering the purchase of this product to look into them. Take into consideration my experience and others before signing on the dotted line. My entire issue may be simply my bad luck but consumers should be able to hear both sides of a review.

Enormous Mistake

We had these gutters installed 4 years ago for almost $4K on our small ranch. Seemed fine until winter hit (midatlantic). The gutter design produces ice damns (6-8 inch ice) sitting on the gutters and huge icicles (some as long as 2ft & 3in in diameter. As these melt, they refreeze below. If like us, you have a roof overhang with a stoop & walkway below, it becomes a total sheet of ice! We try to knock the icicles every day in the freezing temps. It's a horror scene. What does LeafGuard say? "Oh, yeah, they do tend to do that." If that's not bad enough, now we have waterfalls coming off the gutters. The water runs into our basement! No clog? Yeah, right. If you live where you get cold temperatures or lots of trees, don't buy these. The potential damage is frightening. Stay away.

UPDATE!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

UPDATE!

The gutters continue to overflow each time a heavy rain happens. After several weeks of calling and waiting the installing company did come out twice, one person the first time, three the second, to correct the problems.

The drip edge was replaced, the gutters were taken down and re-hung. I was assured the overflowing issue was taken care of. A recent heavy rain proved otherwise. Called Leafguard and asked for help but heard nothing for 5 days.

Found the phone number for the original installing company, number was disconnected, found another number, called, left a message then called back days later. Found out they lost the franchise for this area. Called Leafguard again and received the new company phone number. The new franchise company did come out but the installer who greeted me as he walked up to me did not want to be there and his attitude was mildly aggressive.

I knew I was in trouble when he took out his 6" plastic homeowners level and told me my house has sagged which is causing the overflowing problems. A $3700 gutter installation has proved to be worth far less.

Avoid Leafguard.

Offensive Hard Sales Pitch

Complaint only applies to the sales approach. I have no experience with the actual product, nor do I have any reason to doubt that the product may perform as advertised.

We asked LeafGuard to come out to our house for the purpose of offering an estimate. Representative was nice and professional and commenced making measurements and evaluations. When he was done, he came in and began his presentation. I informed him early on that I was not interested in a sales pitch; I was familiar enough with the product and was merely interested in a financial quote. He proceeded to ignore my request and went into a hard sales pitch. He did not deviate from what I perceived to be a well-rehearsed presentation which included company history, videos, and pulling sample after sample of competitors’ products for comparison purposes. Good information I suppose, but I was not interested in it and told him as much... to no avail. He presented his quotes as “today only offer” which I found off-putting and suspicious. I also told him early on that there was no way I was going to make such a financial obligation on the same day without time to consider my financial situation and if that was his expectation, then we were done. He ignored that and continued to press for an immediate commitment.

Also, I found it suspicious that his first quote was five figures. When I balked at that, he “found” one special discount after another that could be applied. By the time he was done, the figure was less than half of the original quote. I repeated my position that I was not going to make a financial commitment on the spot regardless of the price.

Product may very well be the best on the market. Just be prepared for a hard sales pitch that is best left to cheesy used car lots. I found it offensive and a waste of my time.

When I started working for Leafguard in Cleveland Ohio they were a good company to work for. I was never into a hard sales pitch and was eventually fired for not "closing the deal" on the first appointment.

They hired various "experts" to train you but they were all the same. Keep pushing the customer till they signed the contract. I only treated people the way I would want to be treated. The product itself works to a point but some applications don't.

The owners of Englert {based in San Antonio} seems to have bought into the "need for greed" ways of doing business. They shake and bake their sales force fairly often - didn't used to be like that.

I'm retired now but just want to leave you with one thought. "buyer beware".

Christee Ziq

Our apologies if our sales representative didn't meet your expectations during the presentation. We do strive to exceed a customer's expectations, whether during the presentation, installation or any service requests in the performance of the system.

We appreciate the opportunity to have talked with you and would love to see if we can review the pricing and see how he arrived at the price.

If you could send me your contact information, I would look into it and get back to you with an explanation. Thanks in advance.

Exactly the same experience I had....except my wife wasn't home and salesman hesitated discussing the product without her. When I said ok, bye...he clicked into his canned presentation.

Leaking gutters

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The product itself works great. Over the years the gutter pulled away from the house and now water gets in behind the gutter and leaks out.

Called cust.service twice and they said someone would contact me. One company from Pennsauken NJ said they would send someone out on Thursday. Sat around all day Thursday and nobody showed up. Not even a phone call.

Called Customer service and they said someone would contact me within two days. Five days later still waiting. They do not stand behind their product.

They just want your money and then forget about you. Forget about honoring the warranty.

Leafguard Gutter Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
These gutters DO clog... If you have fir trees, the needles are easily sucked into the gutters where they rot and block the gutters resulting in overflows - just like conventional gutters. However, these gutters are very hard to unclog when they do fail due to the top cover! Plus, each and every corner and joint was leaking within three years of installation by Englert in Oregon.

Don’t fall in the trap with these cheaters

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

They will say it has lifetime warranty and you will save lot of money in long term. The bottom line they are lying about warranty. If it breaks which it does, they will find some excuse like ice damaged or hit by something so you have to pay and which is again in thousands of dollars. The money you will pay in first place is in thousands which you will never recover. Simple gutter clean takes 50-100 dollars a year so if you pay $3000 for installation just to be even in number will take 30 years.

And now here is my story: These guys installed gutter in 2006 and obviously with false lifetime warranty. I see it is overflowing at 3-4 places and one joint is broken. When I called them they took 2 months for appointment and they missed it twice and came 3rd time after 3-4 months. Guess what said this is ice damage so not covered and gave me an estimate of $3000. The guy who is otherwise would work as minimum wage labor proudly said I earned more than doctor. So you can guess level of cheating they are doing. I am writing this so that other people do not become their prey.

I have these gutters in Springfield, MA, and have had good experiences with the company. Do you think this could be a local branch issue?

Your story is similar timing execpt I haven't spoken to them. Min outright leak so they'd give me the same story.

Their warranty is carefully worded if you take a second look. I've lived long enough to to see this. I was just taken. I can see it wouldn't do any good to contact them.

After all, their website leaves no place to contact them for service. You have to call.

You can only leave information for an estimate. I feel your pain!

Leafguard Gutter Review from Mooresville, North Carolina

I saw thread on TV and called. A rep came to my house and wasted 90 mins of my time to tell me it was going to cost $7900 for 118 linear feet of gutters, alum fascia, etc. I almost choked. All other quotes were $650-750 depending on 5" or 6"! I told the guy he was crazy, then he started called a mgr for special pricing. He finally left after his spl pricing was $6900. This is crazy...trying to get someone to *** on this ridiculous product.

Pretty much the same

Great sales pitch, but every time it rains we get a trench of rain because the fir needles have clogged the gutter. If you lived with a greater pitched roof and wasn't surrounded with Doug firs, it might work. Looks and works poorly. We have to blast it off every few months to get it to work. Sorry we fell for it. We wish it would disappear. I can't believe Costco sold it, too. Again, looks cool and apparently adds to the value of your house. I would like it replaced with a workable install, but for what we spent I guess we are stuck with it.

Leafguard is legalized crooks

Leafguard managed to "***" my wife into repairing a 10' section of guttering on our house where we had a leak. They took advantage of her lack of knowledge and the fact they talked with her without my presence and input.

Essentially, they put up a single section of gutter with a few clips then had her verify the work using her cell phone. She found out they had billed her through an account with Wells Fargo which they set up for her and the total charges were $1,400 for a piece of gutter and some clips.

Hope these thugs bust "***" wide open..

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and your wife but we do not work with Wells Fargo which makes us believe it may not be Englert LeafGuard you have on your home. If you would like to speak further please send an email to info@***.com with the best contact information for you and we would be happy to speak with you.

Thank you.

Leafguard Customer Care Review from Chicago, Illinois

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I'm a Chicago resident. On June 2, 2016, I called to get a free estimate from Leafguard. Once we set the appointment, an hour later I received a call from the company and the rep tells me they have to cancel my appointment. Get this, they say my property is not compatible with their gutters, but the most rediculous comment was, "Uh, the properties are close to one another." Well, no kidding? Most homes in chicago are, genius. Further, the rep. states, "This is dangerous for the workers." Was that a joke!? What kind of romper room operation are they running over there? I looked at their gallery and those photos were, what appeared to be, much bigger homes than mine and dangerous to even work on, for an inexperienced individual, that is. You would think they would come-out and provide suggestions and options. Well, I sought other companies, and guess what? One came out in evening, one will come out Thursday, and the other on Saturday. I shared my Leafgaurd experience with them. They were puzzled, some laughed and others shared a negative experience, or two about Leafguard. The company that came out in the evening made an interesting comment. He said the job I was seeking was not worh Leafguard's time, cause they're so over priced, and added, they actually, chose a ***-poor excuse for not coming out. If that's indeed the case, how's that for actually showing prejudice? I will defame Leafguard every opportunity I get. Beware....you just may have to own large square footage property(s) for this company to actually show interest.

Doesn't osha require a 4-1 ration for ladder distance? I had some work done and the company had to rent scaffold because when houses are too close they can be fined thousands of dollars if they fail to follow OSHA....

Disrespectful Installers

I was at work when my neighbors had "Leafguard" gutters installed on their home. Wish I had been home to prevent workers from damaging my landscaping. Flowers in my yard had been trampled and a large bush was flattened with broken branches. Wire fencing was also flattened and bent. Installers must have used my yard to layout and cut materials with total disregard of my carefully tendered plants. In addition, large and small pieces of gutter with sharp edges were strewn about my yard. Needless to say, I will not choose "Leafguard" when I have my gutters replaced this Sept. The gutters may be of high quality, but installers are not. I'm not sure I would trust the kind of work" Leafguard" installers provide. Homeowner, Platte Park, Denver, CO

Update. After 5 days, no response was been received from the customer who posted this remark.

We have checked with both our Denver, St Louis and Kansas City branches, due to the conflicting information on where they live (Maryland Heights, MO, Denver Colorado and Platte Park).

We would certainly like to make things right but until we receive contact, we are not able to handle the issue. Thanks.

Did you contact the company and have them come out and clean up the mess they made? You should also have asked for some financial compensation
